Mama bird thinks it's time for baby bird's first flight, but baby bird has other ideas in this hilarious and universal story about learning (and struggling) to spread your wings-from the award-winning and New York Times bestselling author-illustrator of Dear Mrs. LaRue and How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight?, Mark Teague! Baby bird's far-fetched ideas about alternatives to learning how to fly will have readers in stitches. Every little one struggles with going out into the world and becoming more independent, so baby bird's struggle will resonate. WORDLESS STORY: While Mark doesn't include any text in the book, baby bird's story is clearly spelled out in Mark's striking and dynamic illustrations. His stunning art is full of movement, spinning the story entirely on its own. We are thrilled to welcome such an incredible author/ illustrator to our list! Mark Teague is the author of the New York Times bestselling Dear Mrs. LaRue books (the two books have combined bookscan sales of over 93,000 copies!) and the How Do Dinosaurs... series with author, Jane Yolen. Praise for Mark Teague's titles "Simply irresistible." --The New York Times on Dear Mrs. LaRue: Letters from Obedient School "A delight from start to finish; better buy more than one." --Booklist on How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight?, starred review "Teague is once again right on target ... with his idiosyncratic brand of sly humor." --Publishers Weekly on Pigsty, starred review "Teague outdoes himself here; his over-sized drawings are equal partners to Rylant's words. They create narrative, movement, and fun on every page; Gracie often seems ready to leap from the page, as she becomes bigger than life... The strong storyline in text and illustration makes this a fine read-aloud. Gracie Rose deserves a series!" --Kirkus Reviews on The Great Gracie Chase, starred review (5/17/2019)
