The Spanish language edition of Margarita Engle's story about Antonio Chuffat, a young man of African, Chinese, and Cuban descent who became a champion of civil rights for those who could not speak for themselves. This historical novel will speak to the growing numbers of bicultural and biracial children who are trying to figure out their place in the world. Margarita Engle is the first Latina to ever win a Newbery Honor, which she did for The Surrender Tree. Her many other accolades include multiple Pura Belpré Awards and Honors, a Jane Addams Award and Honor, two Américas Awards and an Honor, and the Sydney Taylor Award. Margarita is well-loved and highly respected by educators and librarians.
